Question:   I've just started rugby practices and my shins are hurting. I've had shin splints in the past (from the side) and this is different. The pain is on the front side of the shins, not on the muscle. It's where the bone is--so on the right leg, the horizontal pain area is from the middle of the shin towards the interior. The pain occurs for most of the shin's vertical length. The pain is bad and is the worst after I do a sprint. I literally flinch in pain during our rest periods. Is this shin splints? Are there any braces, foot inserts, etc. I can get to ease the pain for the next rugby practice?    Dr. McLaughlin's Answer

Question:   Hi I am 28-years-old and have endometriosis and now I have Hashimoto's. I am the first in my family to have this and am taking Lo-Estrin 1.5/30 on a continuous basis. I haven't had a period in 8 months. I don't take the placebo. I start a new pack of pills during what would be my 7-day sugar pills. I am curious if this triggered my thyroid to become underactive? I know I can't stay on the pill this way forever--I have to have a period soon, right? Is it safe not to have a period and if I stop taking the pill, will the Hashimoto's condition will cease?    Dr. McLaughlin's Answer
