Question:   I am a 43 year old woman and have had a tic all my life. Specifically, I move my shoulder without realizing it frequently. I also sniff a lot. I recently read acute sinusitis or reoccurring strep infections may be at the root of tics. I frequently get both of these. Is there anything that I can do to "cure" these tics, perhaps medicine to take? As I get older the tics have become more frequent and noticeable. I live in North Carolina and have never seen a doctor about this... too embarrassing. Thank you.    Dr. McLaughlin's Answer

Question:   I'm a healthy 22 year old female. I am a little underweight and working on gaining weight. I had started taking an herbal supplement but stopped because I wasn't sure if it was safe. It contains saw palmetto, fennel, dong quai, damania, milk thistle, dandelion, watercress, black cohosh and wild yam. Is it safe to take a multi-herbal pill and will it interfere with birth control pills, as St. John's wort might?    Dr. McLaughlin's Answer
