DNA and Reversal of Hair Loss
June 2000

Q. If scientist are 75 to 80 % done with mapping the DNA, when finished will they be able to cure and or reverse hair loss?

A. When we are able to complete DNA genetic mapping, the blueprint for humans, I am hopeful that we will be much better able to accurately diagnose and treat many medical conditions. As for which of these treatments will eventually pan out to be truly helpful, we will have to wait and see. I highly doubt that given the extreme complexity of a human being, that we will ever completely be able to treat all disease conditions. Therefore, whether we can manipulate genes to put some hair back on one's head, or prevent the hair loss in the first place, we'll just have to take a step back and wait with our hats off!
